Excellent Travel Camera
March.2009

Istanbul is a city that seems to be made for black & white photography with its striking forms and melancholy mood. We certainly had a wonderful time taking pictures of the city with a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS. With just about every compact digital camera having a black & white mode, we encourage shooters to to use it more.

The SX110 IS is relatively compact for its 'superzoom' range, and it's pocketable - in big pockets anyhow. Controls, buttons, and menus are typically Canon's: very easy to use. The 2.8 maximum aperture is fast for such a long zoom lens, and coupled with optical image stabilization, are very helpful in low light conditions where tripods are impractical or not allowed (we took many night street pictures hand-held).

Over all, we find the SX110 IS to be an excellent travel camera. Even in the cold, it's easy and comfortable to operate. Full MANUAL exposure mode lets us set both aperture and shutter speed for difficult lighting situations, especially at night. Standard AA batteries usage is also a welcomed feature, we were able to take a whopping 650 pictures (without flash) on average before having to change batteries (we took pictures almost non-stop).
