SEOUL (South Korea)
November 2010
Except for a rainy afternoon, we spent four beautiful autumn days taking pictures of Seoul, South Korea with a Canon PowerShot G12. We didn't plan, but happened to be there at the same time the G20 summit was held. Police and security presence was heavy, but the city was calm and relaxed. We had no problem walking and bicycling all around the city to take pictures.
In Seoul, we find an energetic and modern city that clearly benefits from South Korea's rising economic might. In the city center, beautiful and photogenic feudal-era royal palaces coexist with glass high-rises and massive LCD screens. Coffee shops and restaurants pack the center of every district. We love Korean food, find the people in Seoul polite, and appreciate their easy-going attitude toward photography.
Biking around the city can be tricky but rewarding, so one should be an experienced urban rider. It's a mix of riding alongside cars, buses, and people on the sidewalks - where bikes are accepted and tolerated. For recreational biking, Seoul has beautifully-built bike paths and facilities on both sides along the Han River.
