The Sony Cyber-shot W170 is stylish, solidly built, and comfortable to hold and shoot. Controls and buttons are well located, menus are clear and easy to navigate. We are happy with many pictures that were taken hand-held, without flash, inside the museums. The 28mm wide angle lens provides nice coverage, and optical image stabilization works well inside.
The Cyber-shot W170 makes a good everyday camera. Image quality is good but predictably a little noisy for this type of camera at ISO 400 and higher. In any camera, it's always a tradeoff between noise reduction vs. details. Sony chooses details for the W170 while Panasonic chooses noise reduction for its Lumix FS20 - a very similar camera in specs, functions and performance to the W170.
